Q: How many people worked on DS? How long did it take?

Short answer: one person-- me, and it took about three months.

Long answer: I had some invaluable assistance from Jane Kalmes, who co-wrote the story, Isaias Garcia, who composed and performed the musical score, Carol Mertz, in association with Rampant Interactive, who performed as Amelia and the Scarecrow Guide, and my eight-year-old son Zane, who with some digital assistance provided the voice of young Amelia.

The game itself was completed in three months, however technical issues (regarding compatibility with older devices) took another two months to work through. Special thanks to the team at Bulletproof Studios Australia, Aaron Burns, and Unreal Technologies for helping iron out those problems.

Q: Do you have more games in development?

Indeed I do. Watch the website (or follow me on twitter) to stay in the loop.

Q: How can I make a game?

Most people who know about these things will tell you it isn't possible to make a video game all by yourself. It requires a team. They are probably right. If you decide to ignore that advice, however, do check out the Unreal Development Kit. And good luck.

Q: Will you make me a sandwich?

I do make a darn good sandwich. But no. Ask your mother.

Q: Will there be alternate language support for D:S?

I am currently working on versions in French and Spanish. There may be German version in the works as well. If you want a version in your own language, drop me an email. I may put you to work translating.

Q: What's in your dream:scape?

Ten million monkeys and ten million typewriters.

!? D:S crashed or restarted during multitasking.

Like most large apps, D:S is jealous of memory and may not play well with others. Quitting other apps will allow D:S to run as smooth as a tunnel oilslick.

!? My iPhone 3GS version of D:S doesn't show the Menu and Diary icons.

Because the iPhone 3GS has a smaller screen resolution, these icons fall outside the scope of the screen. Fortunately, the top corners of your screen still operate the Diary and Menu functions, so there is no effect on gameplay. The icons ain't all that pretty anyway, so consider yourself lucky.

!? My screen is cluttered with visible Diary and Menu icons.

Go buy yourself an iPhone 3GS.

!? I got physically stuck in one place.

D:S is a huge world with lots of nooks and crannies. If you find yourself wedged in someplace (there's a good one down by the waterfall) simply shut down the app and restart it (press the home button to return to the home screen, then double click the home button to bring up the tray showing your currently running apps. Press and hold on the D:S icon until the "-" symbol appears, then click it. This will close D:S in the background, allowing a fresh restart).

Don't worry: D:S will remember your last diary revelation and place you in that vicinity.

!? D:S is too hard: I can't find the right tool or figure out what to do next.

Check out the Hints and Walkthrough section, but be prepared to answer the following password question based on your D:S experience: in one word, what image covers the opening pages of the D:S diary? (this keeps out the lookyloos and riff-raff)

!? D:S is too easy. I finished it in, like, ten minutes.

Liar. At best, I can do it in about an hour, and I made the dang thing. Keep in mind, D:S is an interactive story, a narrative experience to be savored. If you blew through it that fast, think about how much free time you have to compose a glowing review for D:S on iTunes. If you work the word "cookie" into it, maybe I'll send you one.
